Sorrel, common name for any of a genus of plants found in temperate areas worldwide. A number of species are common in ditches and damp meadows.
The water Sorrel has creeping perennial rhizomes with ascending stems bearing small, sky-blue flowers with a yellow, central “eye”. The most popular horticultural Sorrels are admired especially for their brilliant blue flowers. They are planted extensively in gardens and beside pools and streams.
