Sorrel, common name for any of a genus of plants found in temperate areas worldwide. A number of species are common in ditches and damp meadows.
The water Sorrel has creeping perennial rhizomes with ascending stems bearing small, sky-blue flowers with a yellow, central “eye”. The most popular horticultural Sorrels are admired especially for their brilliant blue flowers. They are planted extensively in gardens and beside pools and streams. Common sorrel, or sour dock, is classified as Rumex acetosa,
