Hawkweed
Hawkweed, common name for any of a genus of plants comprising about 17 species of ray-flowered, perennial herbs, most of which are native to North America and Eurasia. The fox-and-cubs, or orange hawkweed, which has basal leaves and small orange-red flowers on long, hairy stems, is a common plant in fields and meadows, especially in mountainous areas of Europe. It grows to a height of 65 cm (26 in). The yellow fox-and-cubs is a yellow-flowered hawkweed, having bristly basal leaves and smooth upper leaves. It grows in the same area as its orange relative. The mouse-ear hawkweed is a yellow-flowered species with long, leafy stolons (horizontal stems). It is widespread throughout Europe.
