Monitoring
Monitoring butterflies and vegetation can assess the effectiveness of the management of the site for fritillaries. This is effected by means of a transect.
The red line on the map represents a butterfly transect. A transect is a fixed route along which walks are made. The transect is representative of the site, including elements of all the habitats. The Myers Allotment transect is split into 9 sections. The transect should be walked every week throughout the season. All butterflies of all species are recorded within a 5 metre corridor, (five metres on either side of the transect) for each of the nine sections.

There are 26 weeks in the recording period April to September. The recording week always begins on the day on which 1 April occurs. Week 26 always ends on 29 September. The transect should not be walked before 10.45 or after 15.45. The transect should not be walked in temperatures below 13 degrees centigrade.
